Before participating with DFSTC programming, Muna Ali already had an impressively solid history working in personal finance. Beginning as a teller with Wells Fargo in 2002, Muna stayed with the company working her way up to personal banking in the next year. By 2012, Muna had been promoted to the third level as a banker and continued in her role as Banker III until 2018. During this time, Muna also began working as an independent consultant and continues to do so to this day. In 2020, Muna transitioned from personal finance to commercial lending when beginning her role as a Business Banking Associate II with Sunrise Banks. Muna stayed with Sunrise until the beginning of this year. In January of this year, Muna founded the Minnesota BIPOC Women's Association (MBWA), an organization providing educational, career, and personal growth programming. The MBWA mission is to increase self-worth and maintain dignity.
MBWA's vision is to heighten the socioeconomic status of BIPOC women that have experienced racial intolerance and other systemic injustices in the workplace, with a special interest in advancing equity in the workplace. In her own words, Muna describes her focus for the organization as aiming to "serve disenfranchised women of color that require additional services that focus on mental health, self care, and well being". In addition to serving as founder and Executive Director of MBWA, Muna is a ULeader with DFSTC! Last year on Saturdays during the month of October, Muna leads morning walks in St. Louis Park as part of the Walking & Worth It series where participants learn more about increasing Self-Worth & Net Worth. This series is made possible through a partnership between MBWA, DFSTC and The St. Louis Park Family Services Collaborative.
