
Jennifer was on her way to achieve her dream. Her work as a journalist was rising from the news, to politics, to theater, and now she works as a medical administrator for the University of Minnesota’s Medical Team. Her journey to success proves that a change in career is perfectly natural.
Jennifer’s Journey
Jennifer has been through all outlets of the news. First starting at age 16 as a news producer at SPNN, then as news collaborators at other stations such as WCCO, KTSP, KARE 11, to CSPAN in DC. Her career also landed her a position as public relations administrator in DC for a local government representative. After she was laid off, it gave her a chance to try something new.
When she approached Dress for Success Twin Cities, it was to gain resume help for a professional change of pace. She got the help she needed and more; the courses and resources that Dress for Success had in place affected her way of thinking in subtle ways to create this abundance mindset that creates independence. There is a human aspect that comes to everything in her line of work. For starters, the ability to solve problems and recognizing our strengths and weaknesses are a vital human aspect. When we can self-actualize what we can accomplish in a single day, then we can accomplish more.
Honesty as the best work policy
Communication is a major part of the professional world. If conflict arises in the workplace, it’s imperative that the problem is addressed and solutions presented, never mind the compromises that may occur. Then the important aspect comes into play, which is to follow through with your promises. Honesty is the best policy; you must let your coworkers and you garner an environment where you can work best for them and you to complete the projects ahead of you. When you work towards success and create your leadership persona, it is equal parts inspiration and motivation, but the best leaders acknowledge their own weaknesses so that they can bring in others who are stronger in those skill areas. “Success is leading, inspiring, and motivating women with healthy competition,” Jennifer states, “(I) provide high standards for myself and others so we can teach each other, grow, and learn from each other. It builds confidence not only in myself but in others.”
Persistence, Drive, and Focus
To anyone looking to start their journey, it is key to stay focused on your goal. “You can’t go in thinking that you will fail.” She says, “If you stay on your goal, you will put yourself in check. You will make it.” Persistence, drive, and motivation to keep pursuing the path to success is key. Even one small step is still moving forwards in the right direction.
